Iranian Activists to Hold Quranic Programs during Arbaeen March

Iranian Quran activists plan to hold various Quranic programs for pilgrims taking part in the annual Arbaeen march toward Karbala, Iraq, this year.

According to Hassan Mohammadi, secretary of a council tasked with coordinating Quranic activities during Arbaeen, the programs include holding Quran recitation sessions with the participation of Iranian Qaris and Tawasheeh (religious singing) groups, choral recitation of Surah al-Fajr, and memorization of the Surah.
He said that copies of the Holy Quran printed by Iran’s Center for Quran Printing and Publishing will also be gifted to the pilgrims.
The Quranic programs will be held in Moukebs (resting places with special facilities and services for pilgrims on roads leading to Karbala and Najaf).
Arbaeen marks 40 days after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and third Shia Imam.
Each year, a huge crowd of Shias march toward Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites. Many of them also visit Imam Ali’s (AS) holy shrine in Najaf.
In the past few years, around 20 million pilgrims from all over the world, including Iran, took part in the mourning ceremonies in Iraqi holy cities marking Arbaeen.
This year, Arbaeen falls on Sunday, November 20.
